Q: How does the scanner connect to the computer ?
A: It depends on the interface of your scanner. For example, when your scanner is equipped with a SCSI interface, you need the following: Ø a SCSI board Ø Driver software for a SCSI board Ø a SCSI cable compatible with the SCSI board and the scanner connector * For scanners which are equipped with a VIDEO interface (M3093EX, M3093DE, M3096EX, M3097E, M3099EX/EH), you need a controller board and a connecting cable in addition to a driver for the interface card.

Q: A message "unknown device found" appears whenever powering up the PC.
A: Some operating systems, such as windows95/98, support a feature called "plug and play". To stop the plug and play feature from detecting the scanner as new hardware, remove all of the check marks in the new hardware dialog box, and click the OK button repeatedly until the plyg and play windows close.

-

Q: An error message "Device Error" appears and I cannot scan.
A: Check the following items: Ø Is the optical unit (lamp, lens, glass, CCD, etc.) dirty? Clean the scanner by following the procedure described in the manual. Ø Is the intensity of the lamp not bright enough? Replace the lamp. Ø Is there paper jammed in the scanner ? Remove the paper. If the error message still appears, contact the subsidiary from which you purchased your scanner.

Q: What is the maximum length of a scanner's SCSI cable ?
A: The maximum recommended length is 6.6 feet per device for a SCSI interface cable. According to the SCSI-II standard, the total length of cables connecting a scanner should not exceed 19.7 feet.

-

Q: What is the scanning speed ?
A: The scanning speed depends upon your application or PC being used. It may increase when using FUJITSU TWAIN V5.3 or later versions with cache mode on the driver set to ON.

-

Q: Does the scanner support duplex scanning ?
A: The following models support duplex scanning, that is, reading both sides of a document at the same time. Duplex scanning is available provided that you use a TWAIN compliant driver (bundled or purchased) and that your application supports continuous scanning mode. fi-4110CU, fi-4750C, fi-4750L, fi-4990C, fi-4340C, fi-4120C, fi-4220C M3099 series M3091DC, M3092DC, M3093DG, M3097DG, M4097D, M4099D.

Q: Can I scan a batch of documents without user intervention ?
A: Yes. All Fujitsu scanners have an Auto Document Feeder (ADF) as standard equipment. To use this feature, your application software needs to support ADF scanning mode. Contact the vendor of your application software.

Q: What is important when connecting a USB cable to the PC ?
A: Use the USB cable included with the scanner package when connecting the scanner to a PC. Once you connect the USB interface cable, wait for at least 5 seconds before you disconnect it, and vice versa, as doing so may cause the scanner to operate improperly. We have confirmed that a standard PC equipped with the following USB host controller boards work correctly with our USB scanners. Note that some PCs may not work properly due to the unique design specifications or working environment. Ø Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller Ø Intel 82371 SB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller Ø Intel 82801 AA/EB USB Universal Host Controller Ø Intel 82440MX PCI to USB Universal Host Controller Ø SiS 7001 USB Open Host Controller Ø VIA USB Universal Host Controller Ø NEC USB Open Host Controller Ø AMD 750 PCI to USB Open Host Controller.

Q: Can I scan photos continuously using the ADF ?
A: Yes you can, but we would recommend scanning photos using the flatbed. If you use ADF, the following may happen: 1.The surface of photograph may be damaged. 2.Feeding and transport of photos through the scanner cannot be guaranteed. ADF capacity may be reduced when using photos. 3.The image quality may be degraded but may be acceptable when scanning at low resolutions with JPEG.

Q: Which models support the dropout feature ?
A: For color scanner, M3091D, M3092DC, fi-4750C, fi-4340C, fi-4120C, fi-4220C and fi-4990C support the dropout color feature of Red, Blue, Green. For monochrome scanner, M4099D supports the dropout color feature (Red, Blue, Green) using color CCD. If you want to know which colors drop out when scanning OCR paper, please contact the subsidiaries from where you purchased your scanner.
